Voice

Fra wikiphonium

A brass player can both sing and talk through the instrument, using the instrument as amplifier. Here we concentrate on techniques called singpops. To produce a singpop the performer must sing a tone with the mouth closed and placed towards the mouthpiece. Then one opens the lips in short “blasts” keeping the singing voice steady. The technique entail that the sound only is amplified through the instrument when the lips open, and the weaker sound can be heard only from the performers voice. In the Wikiphonium project it was used four variants of singpops: singpop and singpop glissando is the same technique, but with the glissando the frequency is altered in the glissandi. The next two is based on the previous, but with a tremolo produced by pressing the valves rapidly up and down.
