The tongue is lifted in the mouth and dropped with a firm movement toward the bottom of the mouth creating a clicking sound. The technique can be performed independent on the airflow, thus it can be done both inhaling and exhaling, and with no air at all. The dynamic range of this technique is limited, and in the wikiphonium project it is mostly used with a microphone.
